Writer, artist, filmmaker, podcaster, musician, editor, publisher… when it comes to David Gloyd, the list goes on.
David founded Crimson Cowl Media out of the ashes of the comic book store he had co-owned as a way to publish and promote the artistic work of his own as well as those of his children.
In film, David has written, directed, produced, acted, edited, and even scored. Amongst these works are included the infamous Doll Trilogy, Echoes of the Past, and The Insignificant Adventures of Doc Oscar.
As a musician, David has fronted bands such as Raven Black, One Man Down, and his current project, Phantoms of the Internet, while also playing guitar, bass, keyboards, and an assortment of other instruments.
In the early days of podcasting, David co-hosted In The Can, a podcast dealing with making films on an ultra-low budget well before it was possible to do so with the average cell phone. It was this podcast that led to him directing the paranormal investigation and historic documentary, Echoes of the Past, as mentioned above. He also hosted the short-lived Zero Show podcast, which covered general topics, and sometimes guest starred his wife, friends, and family. During the days of Crimson Cowl Comics and Collectibles, he formed The Crimson Cowl Comic Club which soon became a podcast (and later YouTube show) co-ran and hosted by Anthony Laatsch. While participating regularly with the club, David also hosted its spin-off podcast (also YouTube show), Under The Cowl, which covered all the other topics discussed at the comic book store that were not covered by the club. While Under The Cowl has been on hiatus, The Crimson Cowl Comic Club Podcast still carries on weekly.
David sold his first piece of art waaay back in his high school days, around the same time as he got into comic book collecting. He has done both since, and has finally started making comics of his own, having recently written and published Tales form the North: The Dungeon, with his son, David Gloyd II providing the art. The father/son duo had previously published chapters of Tales from the North as an online, free anthology series. Upcoming comics include Revenge of the Atomic Alien Zombie, The Crimson Crusaders, Karnoth the Hunter, The Insignificant Adventures of Doc Oscar, and Raving-Mad Super-Guy.
