Powered by a magical alien smiley faced belt buckle,
Raving-Mad Super-Guy was created over 30 years ago by David Gloyd, and has been tragically missing from the pages of comics… until now.
It was in a high school science fiction class where David Gloyd (while listening to two classmates discuss their own character, Mr. Canoehead) was inspired to create a wacky character of his own. Thus, Raving-Mad Super-Guy was born.
Over the next few decades, David continued drawing RMSG and creating stories for him, but never fully created or published any of them. With the formation of Crimson Cowl Media and the beginning of his comic creator career, David’s family and friends encouraged him to finally publish a RMSG comic. With decades of story ideas and multiple origins to choose from, combined with a small following, it was no longer a matter of whether or not to finally do a RMSG comic, but where to begin.
David made the decision to nix the overly complicated origins and alter-egos, and focus on the superhero and his fun adventures. He also decided that he would do the comics in a way which would allow for new readers of nearly any age to jump in at any point, regardless of how much history there was or wasn’t.

Raving-Mad Super-Guy’s Super Spectacular became the first published RMSG comic. Its release coincided with Crimson Cowl Media’s appearance at the Milwaukee Comic Con on September 13, 2025, and contains three short stories.
The first , A Heap of Trouble, introduces us not only to RMSG and Smiley (his silent sidekick and source of his powers), but also to his arch-nemesis, Doctor Skull, and four members of the Evil Eight: Minds-eye, Magic Rabbit, Black Hornet, and Constructo. Constructo, a man turned living junk pile who is able to absorb new wreckage as he destroys things, is the main threat in the story.
The second story, Wishing Well the Wishing Well, features a teenage version of RMSG, Raving-Mad Super-Lad who is powered by Smiley’s predecessor, Orby. They must save their pal, Timmy Nelson from a monster at the bottom of a well. This is the first of many stories where Timmy. either as a teen or an adult, finds strange green rocks which transform him into a monster or super powered being.
The third story, Savior in the Stars, was adapted from an unpublished Superman story written by Matt Fife (Happy Astronaut, Slaughter Otter), with art by David Gloyd, which was done for an episode of Cartoonist By Night. David felt it could easily be adapted for RMSG, and got Matt’s blessing to do so.
There was a fourth story, Birthday Bash, that was meant for this book, but was cut due to time constraints and an approaching deadline. It will be included in the next RMSG book instead.
